"I thank God and FINCA for the loans I have been granted through the Buen Pastor Village Banking group. I am improving my businesses and ensuring that my children can get ahead by going to school. I can neither read nor write, so I want them to learn, and when they grow up, to remember me and the efforts I made for them."

Facts about El Salvador

Since the end of its civil war in 1991, El Salvador has made significant political, economic and social gains. Still, the country lags behind others in the region in access to education and sanitation. Today, some 20 percent of the population lives abroad—having fled the war or having left for economic reasons—and the money they send home accounts for 20 percent of the country’s Gross Domestic Product, or GDP.

Established in 1990, in the wake of the country’s civil war, FINCA El Salvador today operates 10 branches throughout the country. It offers Village Banking and individual loans, local currency loans and money transfer services.
