FINCA Tanzania Transformation

FINCA Tanzania has become the first microfinance institution in the country to transform from a non-regulated organization to an entity regulated by the Bank of Tanzania. According to Chief Executive Officer Tom Kocsis, this new designation will allow the Subsidiary to branch out to new and underserved areas.

Celebrating 20 Years of Village Banking in Uganda!

FINCA Uganda, the first FINCA subsidiary launched on the African continent, is celebrating 20 years of providing financial services to both urban and rural clients throughout the country. So it was fitting that, as a show of appreciation, FINCA Uganda returned to its inaugural community of Jinja to provide clients and their families with access to free health screenings and hands-on care.

Whole Planet Foundation Supports Expansion for FINCA DR Congo

Whole Planet Foundation, a Whole Foods Market non-profit that funds poverty alleviation around the globe where the company sources products, has made a $500,000 interest-free, local currency loan to FINCA Democratic Republic of Congo, which will allow for the program’s expansion into Kolwezi, a city in Katanga Province, the heart of the Congolese mining sector. The funding will bring much-needed financial services to more than 4,700 new borrowers over the next three years, the majority of whom are anticipated to be women.

Create Lasting Impact through FINCA’s Legacy Society

Fifty years ago, Bill Raiford wrote his Master’s Thesis on foreign assistance legislation, which led to a fulfilling and interesting career in which he had the great joy of working with many people from the developing world. So it was no surprise that, when he heard about FINCA’s work from his good friends Ken and Karen Gerdes, whose support for Village Banking is nearing the 20-year milestone, he knew he’d found a cause worth investing in.

Girls in Uganda have reason to hope for a better future!

In Uganda, girls as young as age 10 can now save money they earn safely and responsibly through our unique StarGirls program, helping to ensure they can afford the education they need for a brighter future. Launched as a pilot program in 2009, StarGirls has already proven so successful that it has grown to four of FINCA Uganda’s branches, where 1,300 girls currently in the program have saved an average of $8 each, with a number of accounts reaching $40.
