Our Clients Come First
Since its very beginnings, FINCA has taken a leadership stance on making sure that our clients’ best interests are at the forefront of every decision we make about the financial services we provide. We have been a standard bearer in the industry, and taken the lead in helping establish principles for the protection of microfinance clients, as well as pioneering client assessment methodologies to determine the progress our clients’ make in growing their businesses and improving their socio-economic well-being.

Girls in Uganda have reason to hope for a better future!
In Uganda, girls as young as age 10 can now save money they earn safely and responsibly through our unique StarGirls program, helping to ensure they can afford the education they need for a brighter future. Launched as a pilot program in 2009, StarGirls has already proven so successful that it has grown to four of FINCA Uganda’s branches, where 1,300 girls currently in the program have saved an average of $8 each, with a number of accounts reaching $40.

Hope in Afghanistan
For over 25 years, FINCA has been working to change lives in some of the world’s most challenging environments, including Haiti. the Democratic Republic of Congo and Afghanistan, recently ranked #1 in a report of the most dangerous places for women, because of violence towards women, poor maternal health and lack of access to economic resources. Afghan women who speak out against these injustices are often silenced by intimidation or death. But there is hope.

Hope in DR Congo
In DR Congo, years of warfare, HIV/AIDS and other diseases, and starvation and malnutrition have led to millions of deaths, and left the economy a shambles. But there is hope. FINCA DR Congo is one of the fastest growing FINCA programs in the world, with 39 percent growth in client outreach in 2010.

Now you can support FINCA clients directly through a safe and easy-to-use online donation tool called Lend A Hand. Just choose the client you want to help build a small business, then contribute. Your donations go to FINCA programs, where our staff provides the loans to the borrowers.

FINCA Surpasses 800,000 Clients Served Worldwide
FINCA concluded the first quarter of 2011 serving 800,814 clients across our 21 programs — a new record. Given the five-person average family size of our clients, FINCA's financial services are potentially improving the lives of over four million children and adults struggling in poverty.

FINCA and other leading microfinance institutions (MFI) worldwide have drafted and endorsed a statement in support of the Smart Microfinance Campaign, a core set of Client Protection Principles to help MFIs practice good ethics and smart business; FINCA President and CEO Rupert Scofield is a founding member of the Smart Campaign Steering Committee.

FINCA Reaches Record Number of Clients Worldwide
FINCA Azerbaijan recently became the third program in FINCA’s 21-country global network to pass the 100,000-client milestone—after FINCA Mexico and FINCA Kyrgyzstan. We’re also delighted that FINCA Azerbaijan has helped make possible our new client outreach record. FINCA closed 2010 serving almost 765,000 clients on a global basis!

FINCA’s programs in Ecuador and Mexico were recently ranked in the Top 100 by Microfinance Americas for their outstanding outreach, transparency and efficiency. The publication of the Multilateral Investment Fund of the Inter-American Development Bank and the Microfinance Information Exchange (MIX) ranked FINCA Ecuador #22 and FINCA Mexico #33.

FINCA Nicaragua and FINCA Honduras clients benefiting from a USDA Food for Progress grant
USDA officials visited FINCA Nicaragua clients benefiting from a USDA Food for Progress grant, which has enabled the program to expand its outreach and lending to agricultural clients. The USDA also announced a new grant for FINCA Honduras, which will enable it to expand outreach to rural clients and offer specialized loans for farmers to buy equipment, undergo training, and improve their efficiency.

FINCA Kyrgyzstan Forced to Close Offices
Violence has, again, erupted in southern Kyrgyzstan, resulting in more than 170 deaths and nearly 1,800 injured, according to Kyrgyzstan's Health Ministry. To ensure staff and client safety, FINCA’s offices in the Osh and Jalal-Abat regions were closed for several days, but operations continued in the Central and Northern regions. Staff joined in international relief efforts by sending humanitarian aid to Osh, traveling to the airport to load boxes of food onto planes.

FINCA Armenia Secures Loan to Help Struggling Poor
FINCA Armenia will be able to extend its life-changing loans to as many as 6,000 of Armenia’s lowest-income entrepreneurs, thanks to a local currency loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
