Create Lasting Impact through FINCA’s Legacy Society

Fifty years ago, Bill Raiford wrote his Master’s Thesis on foreign assistance legislation, which led to a fulfilling and interesting career in which he had the great joy of working with many people from the developing world. So it was no surprise that, when he heard about FINCA’s work from his good friends Ken and Karen Gerdes, whose support for Village Banking is nearing the 20-year milestone, he knew he’d found a cause worth investing in.

"I know my planned giving will have a long-lasting and sustainable benefit to FINCA and the families and communities it serves."

FINCA's Rupert Scofield

FINCA's Rupert Scofield interview with Credit Suisse

FINCA President & CEO Rupert Scofield was invited to sit down with Credit Suisse recently to participate in an interview in which he shares his views about the future trends and opportunities in microfinance and social entrepreneurship, and the important roles all stakeholders can play in their successful development.

Ten Loaves of Bread and an $80 Loan

Egreen Namusokwe of Lusaka, Zambia, is 57 years old, married and the mother of six children. But each day Egreen’s heart is sad because, as hard as her husband has tried to support the entire family and pay the children’s school fees, his income has never been enough. Because there’s just not enough to support them all, they have had to send three of their children to live with her sister in another village.

She knew there had to be another way. She talked with some of the women in her neighborhood and said she “was amazed to hear about FINCA.” She was introduced to the Samalani Village Bank, and took out her first loan of $ 80.
