For more than 30 years, FINCA, a successful social enterprise itself, has promoted a grassroots microfinance model of development. In this model, local entrepreneurs receive capital and training to build their ideas into businesses and make their dreams become a reality. In the process they build a livelihood that allows them to support their family, create jobs for others and strengthen their local economy.
Many communities we serve have no electricity, making it hard for children to study. Safe drinking water is scarce. Sanitation is poor. There is food insecurity and poor nutrition.
Poverty is a multifaceted challenge. Providing reliable and responsible financial services is part of the solution. We also have to increase access to life-improving products so that poor communities can make better investments in nutrition, education, health and quality of life.
We seek to harness new examples of the kind of entrepreneurial spirit that built FINCA. FINCA searches for innovative and new products, services and ideas. When combined with FINCA’s loans, these innovations can empower the people in the communities we work in, helping to overcome the challenges that cause poverty.
